Here’s what I love about staying in Unterstrass — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of the old town. I mean, couples absolutely rave about this location (they give it a 9.8 rating), and I get why. You can walk to the main train station in about 15 minutes, but when you come back in the evening, you’re in this quieter residential area where actual Zurich locals live. There’s a great little bakery just around the corner that I discovered on my second morning, and honestly, that’s the kind of find that makes a trip memorable.

The Apartment Experience

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel room. Each unit has its own character — mine had these lovely art pieces on the walls (hence the name, I suppose) and a compact but fully functional kitchen that actually made sense to use. You know what really impressed me? The attention to practical details. Good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and a coffee setup that doesn’t make you feel like you’re roughing it. The space feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together.

Having that little kitchen changes everything about how you experience Zurich — and trust me, your wallet will thank you in a city where a simple lunch can cost 25 francs. I found myself stopping by the nearby Coop to grab fresh bread and local cheese, making simple breakfasts while planning my day. The apartment setup means you can spread out properly, do some laundry if you need to, and generally just breathe a bit more than you would in a cramped hotel room. There’s something liberating about not having to eat every single meal out, especially when you’re staying for more than a couple of nights.

It’s that rare combination of great location, reasonable price, and genuine thoughtfulness that’s hard to find in Zurich. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing — everything just works smoothly without any fuss. You’re getting way more space and independence than a traditional hotel would give you, but with the reliability and cleanliness you want when you’re traveling. For couples especially, there’s something really nice about having your own little temporary home base in the city rather than just a place to sleep.

  The apartment was very beautiful, clean, comfortable and well equipped! The location is very convenient, as it is close to a tram stop and there are parking places (blue and white zones) just outside of the building. It is also at a walking distance from the centre. The host was very helpful and kind. We will definitely visit the apartment again in the future!

  It is surrounded by residential areas and is very quiet.
  There is a slope in front of the house.
  The room is small but functional. (It would be better if there's more ventilation)
  Contactless check-in is very convenient.
  The landlord put the key in the password-locked mailbox.
  Just leave it directly in the mailbox when you check out.
  There is a large Coop next to the train station, where you can purchase food and souvenir on your return trip.
  Overall recommended!
