Sorell Hotel Rütli Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Sorell Hotel Rütli feels like discovering one of those perfectly placed gems that locals probably wish tourists didn’t know about. This three-star property sits right on Zähringerstrasse, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re literally in the thick of everything that makes Zurich special. The lobby has this understated Swiss charm that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many hotels that go overboard with their décor.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what struck me most about staying here? I could walk to pretty much everything worth seeing without breaking a sweat. The old town is right there, the shopping district is a few minutes away, and you’ve got easy access to public transport if you want to venture further out. I mean, couples seem to get this — they consistently rate the location around 9.4, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being able to stroll along the Limmat River after dinner, then just pop back to your room without dealing with trams or taxis.
The Room Experience
The rooms aren’t huge — this is Zurich, after all, where space comes at a premium — but they’re thoughtfully designed and surprisingly comfortable. Everything feels clean and well-maintained, which matters more than fancy amenities when you’re actually trying to sleep. The windows open (always a plus in my book), and if you’re lucky enough to get a street-facing room, you’ll have some nice views of the neighborhood’s mix of historic and modern architecture.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is solid — they do both continental and buffet options, so whether you’re the type who just grabs coffee and pastries or someone who needs a proper spread to start the day, you’re covered. I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star hotel breakfast, but the quality surprised me. The coffee is actually good (not always a given), and they have enough variety to keep you happy for several mornings. There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, but with Zurich’s incredible dining scene literally at your doorstep, that’s hardly a problem.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it nails the basics while giving you that unbeatable location. The staff knows their stuff — they’re helpful without being pushy, and they seem to genuinely care about making sure you have what you need. The hotel consistently scores well with guests (around 8.2 overall), and I think it’s because they’ve figured out what travelers actually want: a clean, comfortable base in a fantastic location without paying five-star prices. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring the city and come back feeling like you made a smart choice rather than a compromise.
To book a hotel in Zurich during Christmas markets, visitors plan ahead to mix Bahnhofstrasse shopping with mulled wine in Niederdorf.

Location… it is few mintues walk from the Zurich HB station and near the restaurants.
Staff… everybody is nice. I asked for taxi to the airport and the staff suggested to use UBER if I have one, and it'll save me 20CHF than taking the taxi.Good – Stewart from United States of America (7/10)

The location was excellent, close to main rail transport, not an easy walk, but suitable being level ground to walk, follow the walking paths. Plenty of food places and easy access to local transport. Easy walk to Zürich bay and old down area.
