Dübendorfstrasse 171 Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Dübendorfstrasse 171, I’ll be honest — the name threw me off a bit. It’s literally just the street address, which feels refreshingly straightforward in a city where everything else seems to have some elaborate Swiss-German name I can’t pronounce. This three-star property sits in the Schwamendingen district, and while it might not be the postcard-perfect Zurich you’re imagining, there’s something genuinely appealing about staying where actual locals live and work.
The Neighborhood Reality
Schwamendingen gets overlooked by most tourists, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re about 15 minutes from the city center by tram — and trust me, Swiss public transport runs like clockwork, so those connections are reliable. What I really appreciated was having proper grocery stores nearby and cafes where the barista wasn’t automatically switching to English the moment they saw me. The area feels lived-in rather than polished for visitors, which means better prices for everything from coffee to dinner. The neighborhood offers authentic local experiences that many visitors seek when exploring new cities.
The Room Experience
My room was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly. The bed was comfortable enough, and I actually slept well despite being on a busier street. Double-glazed windows do their job here. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure and plenty of hot water. You know what impressed me most? The little details were thought through — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for charging devices, and storage space that actually made sense.
What Makes It Work
The staff here genuinely seem to care about getting things right. When I had questions about getting to the airport early in the morning, they didn’t just hand me a generic transit map — they walked me through the specific connections and timing. There’s parking available if you’re driving, which isn’t always a given in Zurich. The whole place has this unpretentious efficiency that I found refreshing after dealing with some of the stuffier hotels in the city center. Their attention to guest needs sets them apart from larger, more impersonal establishments.
Why Guests Love It
Couples particularly seem to appreciate this spot, and I can see why — it’s quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, but you’re not stuck in some remote location. The value proposition is solid for Zurich, where hotel prices can be absolutely brutal. You’re getting a clean, comfortable base without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. Plus, there’s something nice about experiencing Zurich from a neighborhood perspective rather than the tourist bubble. The recent guest ratings reflect what I experienced — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it delivers on what it promises.
Exploring Zurich layers Romanesque towers, cutting-edge galleries, riverside baths, and chocolate cafés tucked into arcades.

The beds were comfortable and the place was mostly clean. It was really close to the tram and a mini market. The shower is lovely and powerful. It had soap, shampoo etc which was a nice extra.
Muy completo y cómodo – Saskia from Spain (9/10)
