Hotel Platzhirsch Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Spitalgasse, you might almost miss Hotel Platzhirsch if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique property sits quietly in the heart of Zurich, tucked into a narrow street that feels worlds away from the tourist crowds just minutes from your door. The entrance is understated in that distinctly Swiss way, where elegance doesn’t need to shout about itself. Every detail whispers rather than announces, creating an atmosphere of refined restraint.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the pulse of the old town, but on a street that locals actually use. Step out the front door and you’re a two-minute walk from Bahnhofstrasse for shopping, or head the other direction toward the Limmat River where the real Zurich happens. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just marketing fluff; couples especially seem to get it, rating it even higher because you can actually walk everywhere that matters without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. The neighborhood reveals itself gradually as you explore.
The Room Experience
The room here are what I’d call “Swiss practical” — not huge, but thoughtfully designed so every square meter works. You know what struck me? The attention to sound insulation, which matters when you’re on a narrow street in the city center. The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and local character, with touches that felt authentically Zurich rather than generic European hotel. The bathrooms are compact but well-appointed, and honestly, after a day of walking around the city, that’s all you really need. The design philosophy prioritizes function without sacrificing style.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast setup here actually impressed me more than I expected from a three-star place. They’ve got this continental spread that goes beyond the usual suspects — proper Swiss options alongside vegetarian and gluten-free choices that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The buffet isn’t massive, but everything I tried was fresh and local where it mattered. What I appreciated most was how they handled the morning rush; even when busy, it never felt chaotic or picked-over. The quality remains consistent throughout service hours.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to wow you with a rooftop pool or marble lobbies — that’s not the point. Hotel Platzhirsch works because it gets the fundamentals right while putting you exactly where you want to be in Zurich. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward that little wine bar around the corner or the shortcut to the train station. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for travelers who want authentic Swiss hospitality without the premium price tag. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Zurich, not just visiting it. Guests consistently praise the genuine connection to local culture.
Early hotels booking in Zurich secures balcony seats for Street Parade DJs and fireworks reflected on the lake.

Reviews of Hotel Platzhirsch
Exceptional, left having made new connections we call family – Amal from Oman (9/10)
I had such an incredible experience at this place! The warmth and hospitality from Sigi, Norah, Josie, and the young man at the bar (whose name escapes me) truly made me feel like family. The food was not only delicious but also a delight for the senses. The attention to detail was outstanding, from the intricate glass edging on the doors to the carefully chosen pillows. I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary non-alcoholic drink in the mini-bar – a thoughtful gesture I had never encountered in Europe before. Even the toiletries provided showed the level of care they put into every aspect. This stay will forever stand out as one filled with personal touches, love, and deep appreciation.

Location, location, location. Absolutely the best part of this property is it’s right in the middle of everything. Short walk to tram, restaurants everywhere and the staff were the friendliest I have ever met. Nice amenities.
Nice place stay in old town, and it’s closed to Zurich HB main station – David from United States of America (8/10)
King bed was comfortable, not too hard, not too soft. Rain shower was nice to have , something that is rare in boutique hotels. Staff was friendly and helpful. Air conditioning was really nice to have. I cancelled some hotels in Zurich because they did not have it. Not all room has it so make sure the right one is booked.
