Hotel Hottingen Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Hottingen on a quiet residential street in Zürichberg, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical tourist hotel. It’s tucked into the hillside neighborhood where locals actually live, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The building has that understated Swiss charm — nothing flashy, but everything feels solid and well-maintained. You know what I mean? It’s the kind of place where you can tell they care about the details without trying to impress you with marble lobbies or gold fixtures.
The Zürichberg Advantage
Here’s the thing about staying in Zurich — most visitors stick to the obvious spots near the main station or old town, but Zürichberg is where you actually want to be. This three-star hotel sits in one of the city’s most desirable residential areas, and I mean that literally — couples consistently rate the location around 8.8 out of 10. You’re close enough to walk down to the lake (about 15 minutes if you don’t mind the hill), but far enough up to escape the tourist crowds. The tram connections are solid too, so getting into the city center is actually easier than you’d think.
Your Room and Space
The rooms here aren’t huge — this is Switzerland, after all — but they’re thoughtfully designed and surprisingly comfortable. Each room feels clean and modern without being sterile, and the windows let in plenty of natural light. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stays, even though you’re still technically in the city. The beds are proper Swiss quality (firm but not rock-hard), and the bathrooms are compact but functional. It’s the kind of setup where you’ll sleep well and wake up refreshed, which honestly matters more than having a massive suite.
Breakfast Worth Waking Up For
The breakfast situation here actually impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases — continental options, vegetarian choices, vegan selections, and even gluten-free items. I mean, finding decent vegan options in a smaller Swiss hotel isn’t always guaranteed, so that was a pleasant surprise. The quality is solid too, not just the usual sad hotel spread. You can fuel up properly before heading out to explore, and the dining area has this relaxed morning vibe that doesn’t rush you out the door.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Hottingen isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Zurich, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The location consistently gets top marks (recent guests rated it 8.9), there’s parking available right at the hotel — which is honestly a huge deal in this city — and the whole experience feels authentic rather than touristy. You’re staying where locals would actually choose to live, the restaurant recommendations you get from staff are genuinely good, and you’ll probably find yourself coming back to this neighborhood even after you check out. It’s that rare find where the value, location, and experience all line up perfectly.
Early hotels booking in Zurich secures balcony seats for Street Parade DJs and fireworks reflected on the lake.

Reviews of Hotel Hottingen
Family of 4 in Zurich – Sajan from United Arab Emirates (9/10)
Great spacious room for a family of 4. Located just a 10 minute tram ride from the main train station with the bus stop right in front of the hotel. That was good for us since we had quite a bit of luggage to carry around. Rooms are well equipped and clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They do have breakfast though we didn't opt for it since we usually left early morning for the trips
Excellent! – Vaidy from Australia (9/10)
The staff, particularly Barbara and Marie, were exceptional, kind, helpful and generous! They went above and beyond in helping us as we were stuck with luggage due to the world cycling championship blockade of roads.
Comfortable Stay – Donna from United Kingdom (9/10)
Staff were helpful and polite. Room was very clean and spacious for 4 people. Tea and coffee in the room aswell as a fridge which was an advantage. Only stayed for one night but had a really comfortable stay. 20 min walk into the city but has a tram stop outside the hotel to take you in. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Clean tidy place. Great staff. Comfortable beds. Close to tram station. Not in the centre of town but that helps make it a quiet neighbourhood to stay in.

Great location. 10 Min walk to the lake, 15 Min to Old Town, Tram at door with only 4 stops to Zurich Train Station yet quiet location. Nice neighbourhood. Room was big, clean. Supermarket 100m away. Could use washing machine and dryer for 8 Swiss Fr.
Very enjoyable stay. – Elaine from United Kingdom (9/10)
Lovely clean and spacious room with a very comfortable bed and a lot of amenities. Our room had a balcony with great views over the City and mountains. Ample plug sockets and good WiFi. The staff are very helpful and extremely friendly.
The location of the hotel is good with a tram stop very nearby and within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
I would highly recommend this hotel.
