Swiss Chocolate by Fassbind Zurich Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Swiss Chocolate by Fassbind Zurich, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical chain hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. The three-star property sits right on Zähringerstrasse in the heart of Zurich’s old town, and I mean really in the heart of it. You’re literally steps from everything that matters in this city, which explains why couples keep rating the location a near-perfect 9.4. The lobby has this warm, welcoming vibe that feels more like a boutique guesthouse than a standard hotel, and you can tell right away that someone actually cares about the details here.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re on Zähringerstrasse, which puts you within easy walking distance of Zurich’s main train station, the old town’s winding cobblestone streets, and the Limmat River. But it’s not just about being central (though that helps). The street itself has character, with local cafes and shops that give you a real taste of Zurich life. You can walk to the Grossmünster church in about five minutes, hit the shopping along Bahnhofstrasse without breaking a sweat, or just wander through the medieval alleyways that make this city so photogenic. The fact that couples consistently rave about this spot tells you everything — when you’re exploring together, having everything within reach makes all the difference.
The Room Experience
The rooms at Swiss Chocolate by Fassbind Zurich are what I’d call thoughtfully compact — they’re not huge, but they’re designed smart. Everything you need is there without feeling cramped, and the decor strikes that perfect balance between Swiss efficiency and actual warmth. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are clean and well-appointed. What really stands out is the attention to small touches — good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you actually need them, and windows that let in plenty of natural light during Zurich’s sometimes gray days.
Breakfast Worth Getting Up For
The buffet breakfast here is honestly better than it needs to be for a three-star hotel. You’ve got your standard European breakfast items, but they’re done well — fresh bread, good coffee, local cheeses and meats that actually taste like something. It’s served in a bright, cheerful space that makes morning feel less rushed, even when you’ve got a packed day of sightseeing ahead. I mean, when you’re paying Zurich prices for everything else, having a solid breakfast included feels like a small victory.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something to be said for a hotel that has more repeat guests than most other properties — it means they’re doing something right beyond just the location. The staff genuinely seems to remember faces and preferences, which creates this sense of familiarity that’s rare in city hotels. You’re not just another tourist passing through; you’re a guest they actually want to see again. Combined with that unbeatable location score and the kind of authentic Zurich experience you get just by stepping outside, Swiss Chocolate by Fassbind Zurich delivers exactly what you want from a city break — comfort, character, and the feeling that you’re really experiencing the place, not just visiting it.

Great location. Comfortable. – Mark from United Kingdom (8/10)
The man in reception didn't even say Hi when we walked in. Staff talking amongst themselves and ignoring customers. Weird behaviour. Breakfast good.
Convenient Base for Quick Overnight Stay – Erin from United States of America (8/10)
This hotel worked perfectly fine for our 1 night in Zurich after arriving on a long flight and departing the next morning on our Swiss adventures. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station on the other side of the river, but very close to the main tourist area with all the restaurants, churches, etc. This was one of the few hotels on our trip where the sink was in the bathroom behind a closed door – a fact I always appreciate since I get up much earlier than my husband to shower and get ready. The bathroom was a good size and I loved the backlit mirror and separate magnified makeup mirror. I would recommend this hotel as a base for exploring Zurich. It is fun and thematic (the bedside tables looked like stacked chocolate bars and so did the room number on the door), and everything was modern and clean.
