Sorell Hotel Rex Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Sorell Hotel Rex on Weinbergstrasse, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places that knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — instead, it focuses on getting the fundamentals absolutely right. The building has that understated Swiss charm, and honestly, the location in Unterstrass feels like you’ve discovered a quieter side of Zurich that most tourists miss completely. The neighborhood offers an authentic experience far removed from the typical tourist circuit.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in a residential area that actually feels like real Zurich, not just the tourist version. Unterstrass has this lovely, lived-in quality with tree-lined streets and local cafes where you’ll hear more German than English. The tram connections are fantastic (you know how reliable Swiss public transport is), and you can reach the city center in about 15 minutes. Couples seem to really get this location — there’s something romantic about staying somewhere that feels authentically local rather than right in the thick of tourist central.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Swiss hotel — clean lines, quality furnishings, and everything working perfectly. Nothing flashy, but there’s something refreshing about a place that prioritizes comfort over Instagram-worthy design. The beds are properly firm (Swiss style), and the windows actually open, which I always appreciate. You’ll find thoughtful touches like good lighting for reading and enough outlets for all your devices — small things that matter when you’re actually living in the space.
Breakfast & Practical Matters
The breakfast buffet is honestly one of the better hotel spreads I’ve had in Switzerland, and that’s saying something. Fresh bread, local cheeses, proper coffee — it sets you up well for a day of exploring. What really impressed me was the parking situation — they have private spots available, which is genuinely valuable in Zurich where street parking can be a nightmare. I noticed quite a few guests seemed to be repeat visitors, chatting familiarly with the staff, which always tells you something about a place.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something to be said for a hotel that doesn’t oversell itself but consistently delivers. The staff genuinely seem to care about your stay, and the whole operation runs with that Swiss precision you hope for but don’t always get. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a guest rather than just another booking, and in a city like Zurich where everything can feel a bit formal, that personal touch makes a real difference. You’re paying for reliability, location, and genuine hospitality — and you actually get all three. This hotel represents excellent value for discerning travelers.
Zurich hotels keep guests close to Bahnhofstrasse boutiques, chocolate ateliers, and sunrise ferries on Lake Zurich.

Location is really good. Sound-prood windows were just perfect as it was quite noisy outside because of the transport. Room was clean and fully equipped. Bathroom is extremely tiny.

Very great location. Close to city center, like 10 minutes walking. Comfortable bed. Very clean even if they don't clean your room during short stay on everyday basis (on special request only, which I liked).
