Placid Hotel Design & Lifestyle Zurich Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Placid Hotel Design & Lifestyle Zurich, you immediately get that this four-star property takes its “design” part seriously. The lobby has this clean, minimalist aesthetic that feels distinctly Swiss — not cold, just refreshingly uncluttered. I mean, after navigating Zurich’s bustling streets, there’s something genuinely calming about stepping into a space that actually lives up to its “placid” name. The staff greets you with that perfect balance of Swiss efficiency and genuine warmth, and honestly, you can tell right away why so many guests end up coming back here.
Location & Getting Around
The hotel sits in Altstetten, which might not sound familiar if you’re new to Zurich, but here’s what you need to know — it’s perfectly positioned for both business and leisure travelers. You’re about 15 minutes from the city center by tram (the stop is practically at your doorstep), but you’re also far enough out to avoid the tourist crowds and inflated prices. Couples seem to particularly love this setup, and I get why — you can easily reach the Old Town or Lake Zurich for sightseeing, then retreat to a quieter neighborhood for dinner. Plus, there’s actual parking available here, which is honestly a small miracle in Zurich.
The Rooms
The rooms continue that design-forward theme without going overboard — think Scandinavian-meets-Swiss sensibility. But here’s what really matters: the beds are genuinely exceptional. I’m usually skeptical when hotels tout their mattresses, but this place has clearly invested in quality sleep, and guests consistently rave about it. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Zurich, after all), but they’re intelligently laid out with plenty of storage and workspace. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, and you know what I appreciate? The lighting actually works for both relaxing and getting ready in the morning.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast setup here is impressively comprehensive — they’ve got continental options, American-style dishes, and they actually do justice to dietary restrictions with proper vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. It’s served buffet-style, which means you can take your time and try different things, or if you’re rushing to catch a train, they’ll pack something to go. The quality is solid across the board, not just the standard hotel breakfast that leaves you hunting for a café an hour later. The dining area gets good natural light, and there’s usually a nice mix of business travelers and tourists without feeling chaotic.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about Placid Hotel Design & Lifestyle Zurich is how it manages to feel both polished and unpretentious. The high number of repeat guests tells you everything — people genuinely enjoy staying here, not just because it checks the boxes, but because it actually delivers on comfort and service. The combination of thoughtful design, that fantastic sleep quality, and the smart location creates something that works whether you’re here for business meetings or exploring the city. It’s the kind of place where you settle in quickly and leave feeling like you’ve discovered something worth remembering.

Very modern high-tech hotel, the staff was extremely helpful as well!
Passable option for short-time stays if you don't mind taking long tram rides everywhere. – Claudio from Switzerland (7/10)
the rooms are nicely decorated and had a comfortable bed, with good quality coffee (Nespresso) and a spacious work table and chairs. The indoor parking space comes in handy too. The reception staff is very welcoming and helpful.

Modern, clean and spacious room.
bathroom not being separated was somewhat weird, but nothing too disturbingWouldn't hesitate to return! – Matthew from United Kingdom (9/10)
Though this hotel is a little further away from the centre of Zurich, it's worth the 10/15 minute tram ride. We were on the 10th floor in a Loft and the design is excellent, minimal, clean and well thought out. The room was comfortable and well sized, lots of storage and a Nespresso machine which was a nice touch.
It was my partners birthday so I spoke with the hotel beforehand to ask them to decorate the room, which they did with balloons and a birthday banner for 20CHF. Check-in staff were very friendly and helpful. Staying here made our stay in Zurich extra special.Excellent value for money, not very central but close to the stadium – Nicole from Switzerland (9/10)
Very modern and clean
Nice place to stay. – Chelsea from United States of America (7/10)
Check in and check out was very smooth and straightforwards. The rooms were clean and comfortable upon check in and did offer a nice view from the higher floors.
Very Good – Annette from Switzerland (8/10)
A stay at this hotel is worth recommending. – Rafal from Poland (9/10)
The hotel's location is in the immediate vicinity of warehouses, but the district is quiet. Nearby are two bus stops and one tram stop. A little further is also the Zurich Altstetten train station. The hotel itself is quiet, neat and comfortable. The room was cleaned daily. A big plus is the panoramic window over the city and a sun blind across the entire width of the window.
Very Good – Johana from United States of America (8/10)
The room & facilities were modern and very nice looking room.
