Placid Hotel Design & Lifestyle Zurich Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Placid Hotel Design & Lifestyle Zurich, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical business hotel. The design feels fresh and contemporary — honestly, it’s the kind of place where you’d want to hang out in the lobby even if you weren’t staying here. Located in the Altstetten district, it’s got this cool, residential vibe that feels more authentically Zurich than the touristy areas closer to the old town. The four-star property has this relaxed energy that somehow manages to feel both polished and unpretentious.

The Neighborhood Experience

Altstetten might not be on every tourist’s radar, but that’s actually what makes it great. You’re about 15 minutes from the city center by tram, which gives you easy access to everything while staying somewhere that feels like real Zurich life. There are local cafes and shops within walking distance — the kind of places where you’ll hear more German than English, which I always take as a good sign. The parking situation here is refreshingly straightforward too, especially if you’re planning day trips around Switzerland.

Sleep Quality That Actually Delivers

I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels that promise great sleep, but this place genuinely delivers on it. The beds are seriously comfortable — like, sink-in-and-forget-your-worries comfortable. Each room has been thoughtfully designed with blackout curtains that actually work and soundproofing that keeps the city noise at bay. You know what really impressed me? The attention to lighting — there are multiple options so you can actually read in bed without blinding your partner or fumbling around in the dark.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast setup here is honestly one of the better ones I’ve encountered. They’ve got this extensive buffet that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of — continental classics, American options, plus solid vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. What I really appreciate is that they offer breakfast to-go options, which is perfect when you want to catch an early train or just eat by the lake. The quality is consistently good, and there’s enough variety that you won’t get bored even if you’re staying for several days.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a place that draws repeat visitors, and this hotel definitely has that going for it. Couples seem particularly drawn to the atmosphere here — it strikes that sweet spot between romantic and relaxed without feeling overly formal. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, and you can tell they’ve put thought into the small details that make a difference. Whether you’re using Zurich as a base for exploring Switzerland or just want a solid place to stay in the city, this hotel delivers on comfort and style without any pretense.

  • Passable option for short-time stays if you don't mind taking long tram rides everywhere. – Claudio from Switzerland (7/10)

the rooms are nicely decorated and had a comfortable bed, with good quality coffee (Nespresso) and a spacious work table and chairs. The indoor parking space comes in handy too. The reception staff is very welcoming and helpful.

  • Was a comfy and convenient stay! – Dickinson from Australia (8/10)

Was clean, quiet and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Good breakfast as well

  • Very Good – Madli from Estonia (8/10)

    Modern, clean and spacious room.

  • Wouldn't hesitate to return! – Matthew from United Kingdom (9/10)

Though this hotel is a little further away from the centre of Zurich, it's worth the 10/15 minute tram ride. We were on the 10th floor in a Loft and the design is excellent, minimal, clean and well thought out. The room was comfortable and well sized, lots of storage and a Nespresso machine which was a nice touch.
It was my partners birthday so I spoke with the hotel beforehand to ask them to decorate the room, which they did with balloons and a birthday banner for 20CHF. Check-in staff were very friendly and helpful. Staying here made our stay in Zurich extra special.

  • Excellent value for money, not very central but close to the stadium – Nicole from Switzerland (9/10)

    Very modern and clean

  • Nice place to stay. – Chelsea from United States of America (7/10)

Check in and check out was very smooth and straightforwards. The rooms were clean and comfortable upon check in and did offer a nice view from the higher floors.

  • Very Good – Annette from Switzerland (8/10)

  • A stay at this hotel is worth recommending. – Rafal from Poland (9/10)

The hotel's location is in the immediate vicinity of warehouses, but the district is quiet. Nearby are two bus stops and one tram stop. A little further is also the Zurich Altstetten train station. The hotel itself is quiet, neat and comfortable. The room was cleaned daily. A big plus is the panoramic window over the city and a sun blind across the entire width of the window.

  • Very Good – Johana from United States of America (8/10)

The room & facilities were modern and very nice looking room.
