Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in Escher Wyss, which is sort of Zurich’s creative quarter now. The Schiffbaustrasse address puts you right in the middle of what used to be industrial Zurich but has transformed into this cool area with galleries, restaurants, and the Technopark itself. You can walk to the old town in about 15 minutes, or just hop on the excellent tram system that’s literally at your doorstep. Couples especially seem to get this location (they rate it 8.5, which is pretty impressive), and I think it’s because you feel like you’re staying somewhere authentic rather than in a tourist bubble.

The Room Experience

The rooms are classic ibis — compact but smartly designed with everything you actually need. What surprised me was how quiet they are, considering you’re in an active part of the city. The beds are genuinely comfortable (ibis has really figured out their bedding game), and there’s decent storage space even in the standard rooms. The bathrooms are small but functional, with good water pressure — you know, the basics done right. The windows are large enough that you don’t feel cramped, and some rooms have interesting views of the surrounding neighborhood’s mix of old and new architecture.

The breakfast buffet here actually impressed me more than it should have for a three-star hotel. They’ve got the usual continental spread, but what’s nice is the attention to dietary restrictions — proper vegan and gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The vegetarian selection is solid too, and everything feels fresh rather than sitting under heat lamps forever. It’s served in a bright space that gets good morning light, and honestly, it’s a pleasant way to start your day before heading out to explore Zurich.
