Hotel Alexander Zurich Old Town Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Niederdorfstrasse, you’ll spot Hotel Alexander Zurich Old Town tucked right into the cobblestone heart of Zurich’s historic district. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-run hotel that gets the basics absolutely right. The building itself has that classic Swiss charm without being overly touristy, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The hotel sits perfectly positioned for exploring the medieval streets and landmarks that define this UNESCO-listed area.
Location & Neighborhood
I mean, you really can’t beat this spot. You’re literally in the Old Town, which means you can stumble out the front door and be at the Grossmünster in about three minutes. The Limmat River is right there, and all those winding medieval streets with their shops and cafés are at your fingertips. What I love is that couples seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.5 out of 10, and I totally understand why. You can walk everywhere that matters, but it’s not so touristy that you feel like you’re staying in a theme park. The neighborhood pulses with authentic Swiss culture and charm.
The Room Experience
The rooms are clean and comfortable without any unnecessary frills. You know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Each room feels properly Swiss — efficient, well-designed, and thoughtfully laid out. The beds are decent (I slept well), and the bathrooms are compact but functional. Don’t expect huge spaces, but everything works as it should, and the windows often give you glimpses of the Old Town’s rooftops and narrow streets below. Natural light streams through, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Breakfast & Practical Matters
The breakfast setup is actually pretty impressive for a three-star place. They do continental, vegetarian, and gluten-free options in a buffet style, so there’s something for everyone. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality — fresh bread, good coffee, and they clearly put effort into accommodating different dietary needs. Plus, they have private parking at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend in Zurich where finding a parking spot can be a nightmare. Trust me, if you’re driving, this detail will save you hours of frustration. The staff handles everything with quiet efficiency.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a fancy resort with a spa or elaborate amenities — it’s a well-located, reliable hotel that delivers on its promises. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense because they’ve figured out what matters most: location, cleanliness, and service that doesn’t get in your way. You’re paying for the privilege of staying in one of Zurich’s most walkable neighborhoods, and the hotel doesn’t mess up the simple things. For exploring the city on foot, meeting up with friends, or just having a comfortable base while you wander the Old Town, it hits the mark perfectly. This is genuine hospitality done right.

Good location, comfortable stay. – Sheng from United States of America (9/10)
This hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the old town, making it very convenient to access everything. However, being in the center of downtown, street noise in the evening can be an issue. I wish the hotel had better soundproof windows to block out the noise.

Very efficient quiet and great location. Bed was uncomfortable for me but I’m a princess and the pea. Dinner next door was delicious and so authentic, especially for tourist side of town. So clean! Just very great stay especially for Zurich!
