Hechtplatz Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hechtplatz Hotel on Kruggasse, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street that most tourists rush past on their way to the bigger attractions. The building itself has that classic Zurich charm, all cream-colored stone and traditional Swiss architecture, but without any pretense. I mean, this isn’t trying to be a three-star palace or anything, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the heart of Zurich’s old town, but on a quiet side street that locals actually use. Step out the front door and you can walk to Lake Zurich in about eight minutes, or wander over to Bahnhofstrasse for shopping in five. The Grossmünster church towers are right there, and you know what? You’ll hear the bells in the morning, which sounds touristy but is actually pretty wonderful when you’re sipping coffee. There’s this little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM — the kind of place where the baker still knows everyone’s order.
The Room Experience
The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star in Switzerland — clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet given how central you are. My room had this small window that looked out onto the street, and I actually enjoyed watching people navigate the cobblestones with their suitcases (sorry, but it’s mildly entertaining). The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathroom is compact but well-designed. Don’t expect a minibar or fancy amenities, but everything you need is there, and the Wi-Fi actually works properly.
Practical Details
The staff runs a tight ship here — check-in was smooth, and they seem to genuinely know the area well. When I asked about getting to the airport, the desk clerk didn’t just hand me a generic map but actually explained which tram connections would be fastest at different times of day. There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, with dozens of cafes and eateries within a two-minute walk, you’re not exactly suffering. The breakfast is continental style — nothing fancy, but decent coffee and fresh bread, which is really all you need before heading out to explore.
Why Guests Love It
Look, couples seem to really get what this place is about — it’s got that romantic, old-world Zurich vibe without the tourist trap pricing of some of the fancier hotels nearby. You’re staying where locals live and work, not in some sterile business district. The location feedback makes total sense to me; when you can walk hand-in-hand along the Limmat River in three minutes, or find a cozy wine bar tucked into a medieval building next door, you start to understand why people rate this spot so highly for romantic getaways. It’s not about premium amenities — it’s about being in the right place, at the right price, with just enough comfort to make it work.
Apartments in Zurich suit financiers and founders with minimalist interiors, winter gardens, and riverfront jogging paths.

Great location. Excellent staff. – Ehud from United States of America (6/10)
Great location. Tricky to check in. Manager, Alex, went above and beyond. The pillows seemed to be cut memory foam. There were no decorations on the wall. No mirror in the room to help get ready when someone else was in the bathroom. I know Zurich is very very expensive, but seemed awfully plane for $360 per night.
