Greulich Design & Boutique Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Greulich Design & Boutique Hotel on Herman-Greulich-Strasse, you immediately know this isn’t your typical three-star property. The sleek, minimalist facade hints at what’s inside — a design-forward space that feels more like staying in an architect’s carefully curated home than a standard hotel. I mean, the name says it all really, and they’ve definitely delivered on that promise. The lobby strikes this perfect balance between industrial chic and warmth, with exposed concrete softened by thoughtful lighting and contemporary art pieces.
The Aussersihl Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location in Zurich — you’re in Aussersihl, which honestly feels like the city’s best-kept secret for travelers who want to experience the real Zurich. It’s this vibrant, slightly edgy neighborhood that’s become a magnet for young professionals and creatives, but somehow hasn’t been completely overrun by tourists yet. You can walk to the main train station in about ten minutes, but you’re also surrounded by some fantastic local bars and cafes that most visitors never discover. The area has this authentic urban energy that you just don’t get when you’re staying right in the tourist center.
Design That Actually Works
The room design here is where the hotel really shines — it’s minimalist without being cold, if that makes sense. Clean lines, neutral colors, and smart storage solutions that actually make the space feel larger than it is. What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to incorporate local Swiss design elements without going overboard with the whole Alpine thing. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers and high-quality fixtures that feel more expensive than the price point suggests. You know what? The lighting throughout is just perfect — bright enough to read comfortably but warm enough to relax in the evening.
Thoughtful Touches
There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves surprisingly good food — nothing fancy, but solid, well-prepared dishes that hit the spot after a day of exploring. The breakfast spread is better than you’d expect from a three-star property, with local breads and quality coffee that actually tastes like coffee. I also appreciated the little things, like the complimentary Wi-Fi that actually works well throughout the building, and the fact that the staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems nearby.
Why Guests Love It
This place has developed quite a following among couples, and I can see why — there’s something intimate and sophisticated about the whole experience without being pretentious. The combination of thoughtful design, a genuinely interesting neighborhood location, and that sweet spot pricing makes it feel like you’re getting away with something. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’ve discovered this perfect little corner of Zurich that feels authentically local. Plus, the fact that recent guests consistently rate the location so highly tells you everything you need to know about how well-positioned this hotel really is.
Exploring Zurich layers Romanesque towers, cutting-edge galleries, riverside baths, and chocolate cafés tucked into arcades.

Reviews of Greulich Design & Boutique Hotel
Very clean and modern – Jessica from United Kingdom (9/10)
Location was good but a little further out of town then we thought but easy to find and easy to reach the center. Good value for money. Friendly and polite staff. Very clean and modern rooms with everything you need.
Wonderful – Erik from Sweden (9/10)
Great value for money, friendly and helpfull staff!
Really nice place to stay in Zurich – Gina from Switzerland (9/10)
We loved the concept, in the photo we only see the blue building but the rooms are not in this building, the rooms are in a yard so it gives a holiday vacation vibe, we really loved this.
We were traveling with our dog, the staff was very friendly to him (he is a very big dog, so it was really nice), there are a lot of trees just a few meters away from the hotel.
Nearby there are tram stations and a train station so we didn’t have to use our car, it really helps for visiting Zurich.Very Good – Julia from Germany (8/10)
An interesting hotel, attached to a restaurant. Comfortable bed, slippers, very good natural cosmetics and tea in the room. The breakfast is big with a variety of sweet and salty products. Walking distance from the main station, but also a tram stop around the corner.
Very Good – Jo from United Arab Emirates (8/10)
Great location, friendly team and amazing breakfast. Nice boutique hotel
Very Good – A from Switzerland (8/10)
Breakfast, beds, design, (was both quirky and great, and also not so practical in terms of light coming in)
Wonderful – Charlotte from Switzerland (9/10)
The staff was lovely and helpful. Very clean rooms and lovely hidden courtyard. Very quiet. If you are going to the stadium, 12 mins walk in a straight line.
Would stay again; but not for dinner. – Paul from United Kingdom (9/10)
The hotel was very reasonably priced. Although not in the city centre, it takes no time at all to get into the centre by bus.
Wonderful – Dikla from Israel (9/10)
Great location, great vibes, very nice staff, super clean and comfy
Wonderful – Mia from United Kingdom (9/10)
Great location, lovely birch trees, friendly staff, and the Occitane toiletries were a very nice touch!
