Gasthaus 210 Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Gasthaus 210 on Langstrasse, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical tourist hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it interesting. The building has this understated Swiss charm that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many overly polished places around Zurich. It’s a three-star property that knows what it is and does it well, without any pretense about being something fancier.

The Neighborhood Reality

Here’s what you need to know about Langstrasse — it’s got character, and I mean that in the best way. This area used to be Zurich’s red-light district, but it’s transformed into one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods without losing its edge. You’re walking distance from some genuinely great bars and restaurant that locals actually frequent, not just tourist traps. The tram connections are fantastic too — you can get to the main train station in about ten minutes, which makes exploring the rest of the city pretty effortless.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, which seems to be the Swiss way of doing things. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range place, and the bathroom was spotless — small, yes, but everything worked perfectly. What I really liked was the attention to details like good lighting and decent storage space. You’re not getting premium amenities here, but you’re getting quality basics done right, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of wandering around the city.

Practical Considerations

The staff here actually seem to care about what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given at this price point. They were helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations without being pushy about it. One thing to note — parking isn’t included, but honestly, you don’t need a car in this part of Zurich anyway. The public transport is so good that having a car would probably just be a headache. Breakfast is available, though I ended up exploring the local cafés most mornings because there are some really good options within a few blocks.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about this place is the location-to-value ratio. You’re staying in one of Zurich’s most interesting neighborhoods at a price that won’t completely destroy your travel budget. The fact that couples rate the location so highly tells you something — there’s a good mix of nightlife, culture, and easy access to everything else you want to see. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it gives you a genuine taste of what living in this part of Zurich might actually feel like, which is worth more than marble lobbies and overpriced minibars if you ask me.

The hotel is very central and near several fast food restaurants and small supermarkets (there is a 24hr shop downstairs). I like the mini-kitchen with kettle, fridge and microwave.

  • Great alternative for traveling on a budget – Carlos from Chile (8/10)

The place is very simple. Don't expect anything fancy, but if you are traveling on a budget or just need a place to sleep a couple nights while discovering the city, it's a very good alternative 👍🏽

  • Comfortable room, the Kitchenette a bonus – Liz from United Kingdom (8/10)

Not a bad location for the Zurich HBF. Access and reception in the downstairs shop. Rooms are basic but ours had a Kitchenette with a Microwave, great for not paying an arm and a leg for everything in Swiss restuarants. Aldi is close by and the Co-ops offer food at near reasonable prices as well.

  • Good – Deepak from India (7/10)
