First Impressions

Walking into Central Plaza, you immediately get that feeling of being right in the thick of things — and I mean that in the best possible way. This four-star hotel sits smack in the heart of Zurich’s old town, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The lobby has this understated Swiss elegance that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after staying in some overly flashy places elsewhere in the city.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about staying at Central Plaza — you’re literally steps away from Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping streets, but you’re also close enough to walk to Lake Zurich in about ten minutes. The Paradeplatz tram stop is right around the corner, which connects you to pretty much anywhere in the city. I found myself walking everywhere though, because you know what? Everything worth seeing is within a reasonable stroll. The Swiss National Museum, the old town’s winding cobblestone streets, even the main train station — it’s all right there.

The Rooms

My room was on the fourth floor facing the street, and while it wasn’t huge (this is Zurich, after all), it felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was genuinely comfortable — I’m talking about that perfect firmness that Swiss hotels seem to nail every time. What struck me most was how quiet it was despite being on such a busy street; the windows must be seriously well-insulated. The bathroom was compact but modern, with one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly, unlike some I’ve encountered.

Service & Amenities

The staff at Central Plaza really knows their stuff about the city — I mean, these aren’t just people reading from a script. When I asked about finding a good fondue place that wasn’t too touristy, the concierge gave me three solid recommendations, complete with directions and what to order. The hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant, but there’s a decent breakfast setup, and honestly, with all the incredible dining options within walking distance, you don’t really need more than that. The Wi-Fi was reliable throughout the building, which matters when you’re trying to navigate a new city.

Why Guests Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something romantic about being able to wander through Zurich’s old town together, then come back to a comfortable, well-located base. The hotel strikes that sweet spot between being centrally located without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. You’re paying for the location here, sure, but it’s the kind of location that actually enhances your entire Zurich experience rather than just being a place to sleep. After three nights at Central Plaza, I felt like I’d really experienced the city rather than just visited it.
